SELF DISCOVERY + RECOVERY
Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognize and understand emotions in oneself and others, and to use that understanding to guide behavior and interactions. It involves skills like empathy, self-awareness, and effective communication.
The term “Emotional Intelligence” is fairly new in main-stream culture but to be quite honest — I’ve been noticing this topic being mentioned in the mommy and parenting corners of the internet over the next year and here are some tips I’ve learned.
- Practice empathy by putting yourself in others’ shoes and considering their perspective.
- Improve your communication skills by actively listening and expressing yourself clearly.
- Manage your emotions effectively by recognizing them and finding healthy ways to cope.
- Develop self-awareness by reflecting on your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
- Cultivate positive relationships by building trust, showing respect, and resolving conflicts constructively.
I’ve been working on practicing those top 5 into my personal parenting life and I can see and sense the subtle changes I’ve been making for my family.
// SUBTLE CHANGES LEAD TO REALISTIC RESULTS //
These subtle changes have really helped me zoom-in on what emotion I struggle to express most and then I face it.
That quote “start where you are” plays on repeat in my head until I make a choice to take a step forward.
// ACTS OF SERVICE //
For me and my personal journey I’ve witnessed the ebbs and flows as well as the shifts in support for others and I’ve really felt called to return to origin; return to my acts of service.
[I’ll dive into my personal acts of service in future posts but I think its important to identify what it may look like for you.]
Although we may all be different and come from alternative paths…we’ve all landed here, today — reading this post.
(And I appreciate you for reading thus far, for real).
As I begin to reopen that door to acts of service that bring me joy, I encourage you to take a dive into what acts of service toward yourself and the ones you love so you can begin to brainstorm some ways to prioritize the act of serving; a human value and trait our world is slowly loosing grip on..(in my opinion)
// LIVE IN THE SOLUTION – JOIN US HERE //
To offer a solution to this pattern of dysfunction, I created a Self Discovery [BootCamp] in some of my darkest times during the COVID pandemic. I felt a daily overwhelm of purpose as I listened to friends, family and others around the world display a big dip in the fact that a majority of the world suffers from a total disconnect in emotional intelligence.
To bridge that gap I’ll be bringing back Self Discovery Groups (video calls) to build a pillar of support or community so desperately needs.
// MORE ABOUT SELF DISCOVERY COLLECTIVE //
To give you an idea, Self Discovery is a weekly online meeting with a growing group of non-biased friends around the world also dealing with their own struggles.
Self Discovery gives us the opportunity to call out our fears, mend open wounds caused by our own chaos and choose to rise-above the weight of the world even when your wings are ‘broken’.
// VOLUNTEER //
Self Discovery is looking for volunteers to assist in helping grow and facilitate more opportunities for us to gather and grow. Tasks that will be needing assistance in are as follows: keeping a record of meeting notes, documenting attendees and gathering contact info to initiate all follow ups, planning and opening group calls, etc.
These volunteers also aid in moderating the group and providing comments and requested documents to those looking for tools and resources provided through boxofknots.com.
Apart from other community-driven / self-help / accountability and motivation groups…we offer teachings within each session based on Art Therapy and Cognitive Behavior.
P.S……(As a bonus for attending live sessions we will be rewarding shop points for participating and showing up that can be retrieved and cashed in for free self-development layouts and tools on boxofknots.com.)
If you would like to volunteer please reach out to Angela at theboxofknots@gmail.com or instagram @boxofknots
